The grape varietal Merlot is characterized by an early maturation, it is the first one to bring ripped and sweet berries. The grape varietal ‘Merlot’ earns its name from the ‘blackbird’, in French: ‘Merle’, a small bird particularly greedy for Merlot-berries.

Set in the heart of Minervois wine country, Domaine Peirière simultaneously reaps the benefits of a very generous amount of sunshine together with cool nights because of its proximity to the Montagne Noire.
These are ideal conditions for the development of grape aromas. The whole range of sun-loving varietals can be found on the 230 hectares (568 acres) of the estate, which was replanted thirty years ago. The grapes are harvested at night and are all vinified on the property in an ultramodern winery.
